Desert Cup, 2011

The first tournament was held with the shorter moniker since they had not secured the sponsorship of the Desert Diamond Casino yet. Although ostensibly a “tournament,” organizers had declared an SKC – Red Bulls final. This put Thierry Henry, Omar Bravo and Rafael Márquez playing in the headliner. The FC Tucson – Red Bulls match featured a newly retired Mike Petke in his last match playing in a Red Bulls jersey. These were the first matches played by Kansas City with the name “Sporting Kansas City.”

FC Tucson had only been organized a few weeks before.
