How Flair Is Punished!

Tucson Extreme

August 9, 2012

I got word of a new indoor team in town: Tucson Extreme.

Yeah, I’m not a big fan of the name. Also, the fact that the folks at FC Tucson didn’t get talked to worries me a bit. Not that I think that all Tucson soccer must go through FC Tucson, but it it might be an indicator of some pretty shallow roots in the community.

I saw that their website announced that a press conference is scheduled for today, but after e-mailing Mike, the contact named on the page, I’ve found that the press conference has been rescheduled for September.

The team is having tryouts on August 18th over at Maracana Indoor Soccer Center (555 E 18th Street) between 9 am and noon. They told me I’m welcome to come out and talk to players, coaches and staff.

The team will be playing in the Professional Arena Soccer League, a league that includes the Dallas Sidekicks (the legendary Tatu is their coach these days), San Diego Sockers and, oddly enough, two teams named Revolution. The team begins play on October 25th and they are slated to play at the Tucson Community Center.

Well, that’s a little extreme. That’s all I got for that name.

Might be fun to check them out. Pretty cool I can check out a quinceañera and a soccer game without leaving the building.

Quinceañera? Not looking for a girlfriend, I hope.
