Yes, Cal FC is a fifth division team. They wear old Chicago Fire jerseys. Heck, their website doesn’t even look finished.
But before we bash the Timbers too much (although criticism is always necessary, even after a win), just keep in mind who Eric Wynalda found for this squad. Many of these players have been at the cusp of playing in MLS. At least two actually did: Artur Aghasyan played for RSL and Mike Randolph played for the Galaxy.
I think what the game says is that when you get up to that level, there isn’t a lot of difference between that last player to get on the squad and the guy right behind him.
