I was talking to Zack Goldman, director of operations for the Pali Blues, the other day and we started talking about the next round of the US Open Cup.
He threw an interesting fact at me: next week’s game between Ventura County Fusion and Chivas USA could feature brothers on opposite sides of the field.
Tristan Bowen is on the roster for Chivas USA, and just recently came off a loan spell to Belgian club KSV Roeselare. He came up through the Los Angeles Galaxy youth system and has played for US national youth squads.
Ventura County Fusion forward Travis Bowen also came up in the LA youth system, and also spent time with Portland’s PDL side. He hasn’t yet figured in any games for the Fusion this season.
Chris Pontius’s brother, Tim, also plays for the Fusion. The possibility of the two of them meeting up is rather remote: the bracket is such that DC United and the Fusion can only play against each other if they both make the final.
