The Cactus Pricks have announced their “First Ever Road Trip” for May 29th, the day that FC Tucson plays against the Phoenix Monsoon.
The match will be over at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex in Phoenix at 7:00 PM.
Even though the Monsoon doesn’t play in the same league as FC Tucson, both Pricks and FC Tucson management are billing this the “I-10 Classico.” This would replace a possible rivalry with the on-again-off-again Arizona Sahuaros. It would be too bad in some ways, since the Sahuaros have a history and were the rivals of the Tucson Amigos.
I have reached out to Monsoon PIO Alex Gago and will have some more details in the Sentinel about the club. They’ve been in existence to one extent or another since last year and have beein involved in bringing FMF and MLS clubs to Phoenix for exhibition matches. They have played a few games already, losing their bid to enter the US Open Cup in a match against San Diego Boca FC.
The team includes one-time Tucsonense Pat Perkins, as well as Jonny Steele. Don’t get too excited about Steele…it isn’t that Jonny Steele.
