How Flair Is Punished!

Weekend Action

September 13, 2011

Here I am summing up the footy I paid attention to this weekend. If you want more Galaxy, Arsenal and KC, tell Malena and Vince to post more often.

- What was your soccer watching experience this weekend? Shut up, because mine was better. I watched a match with Tasha Kai.

I am not kidding, really.

I saw Kai tweet that she was up in the Phoenix area this weekend. After some back and forth, she basically told me she’d meet me at the game.

I didn’t think it’d be that easy.

She let me do a short interview. Afterward, she dished on a few of her ex-teammates (I won’t repeat the details here) but mostly we watched the game. She had some things to say about the tactical styles of the two teams and was a bit more subdued than I expected, then again, it was fricking hot out and that vaunted new stadium had little shade.

Classic Kai comment: she told me that she stopped by to see ASU play Oklahoma a couple of days before:

“They tore them up. It was sexy.”

Add Kai to my list of amazing women I’ve watched games with. That list includes Gabby Giffords so it is good company.

- As for the game and our Wildcats, unfortunately, the team is still struggling. But I have to give them credit for one thing.

I went to Renae Cuellar after the game to ask her about praise that Kai had for her. Cuellar made a short response and then praised her teammates.

I had a similar experience with LeeAndra Smith. Here I wanted her to talk about scoring the first goal, but she wanted to talk about the other women on her team.

Good to see.

- Yes, some much delayed weekend highlights. I was just so flabergasted that the Revs didn’t blow a lead this weekend.

- And I can embed video from Ekstraklasa.tv now! Here is this Sunday’s Jagiellonia Białystok match against Polonia Warsawa. Jaga dominated for most of the game. Polonia’s goals seemed more a consolation prize than a real comeback.

- Cruz Azul got blanked by Monarcas. Great call here on the goal from Ecuadoran Joao Rojas:
