Arizona’s scoring woes continue. I’ll have more in the Sentinel later.

Wildcats fall to Cougars
UA Soccer turns focus to the Sun Devil Desert Classic on Friday and Sunday.
TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona Wildcat women’s soccer dropped its fourth straight on Monday afternoon, falling to Brigham Young University 2-0 on the Cougars’ South Field.
BYU (4-1-1) scored both goals in the first half, one in the 20th minute by defender Lindsi Losonbee and the second in the 41st by midfielder Kyleigh Royall, but the Wildcat defense was able to hold the Cougars off for the remainder of the match. In the second half, senior goalie Ashley Jett recorded six saves to bring her total to nine on the day.
“As an entire group we didn’t play well today,” head coach Lisa Oyen said. “We were a little sloppy today and didn’t play well as a group, and BYU played a better game than we did, I do have to give them credit for that. We just weren’t very sharp today.”
Junior Renae Cuellar led Arizona (0-4-0) with three shot attempts for the match, including a pair of on-goal tries. Sophomore Ana-Maria Montoya and freshman Brie DeFelice, who saw her first action as a Wildcat, added one shot attempt each to round out Arizona’s 5-shot total.
“Ashley Jett was huge, she played very well for us, and Gabrielle Lindeman filled in that leadership role with Kirstyn Magyar being out,” Oyen added. “We’re still optimistic about this group and what we’re able to go for the rest of the season, we just need to be sharper and better collectively. This is the first time we really haven’t played a very good match, but we’ll get there.”
Up next, the Wildcats head up the I-10 to Tempe, to participate in the Sun Devil Desert Classic. Friday, September 9, Arizona will face Missouri at 2 p.m., and Sunday, September 11, the squad will take on Oklahoma at 11 a.m.
