Jaga managed only one point from the first game of their season yesterday, after building a two goal lead that held until the eightieth minute.
When I saw the score, I asked Polish soccer guru Michał Zachodny about it, and he attributed it to field conditions. I’ll take that.
The game was against newly promoted TS Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biała. This is the first time the team has been in the Polish top flight since it was formed from the merger of three local clubs in 1997.
- Lech Poznań started the weekend and the season emphatically with a 5 – 0 thrashing of ŁKS Łódź. Artjoms Rudņevs scored a hat trick. Looks like someone is making a bid to get back into Europe.
- A bit of controversy in the Polonia – Lechia match when Polonia’s Jakub Tosik took down Lechia’s Burkina Faso international Abdou Razack Traoré in what seemed to be the penalty area. Not only was there no card, but no whistle was even blown on the play. Highlights show two other possible fouls on the same play. The Lechiści probably felt even more hard done since they lost the game by a goal and ended with ten men.
