One time FC Tucson player Monahan to BSF

Former NAU and FC Tucson striker Sam Monahan touched ground last week in Denmark to ply her trade for
Ballerup-Skovlunde Fodbold, a club that plays its home matches northwest of Copenhagen.

Monahan was a All-Big Sky first teamer at NAU in 2010 and 2011. Unfortunately, her professional career got underway just in time for WPS to collapse in the US. She went to Finland, where she played two seasons for FC Honka, where she scored 18 goals and 18 assists and helped them to a Finnish Cup title. She moved on to play for hometown FC Tucson for a summer and then to Östersunds DFF in Sweden, where she led the team in goals with 11.

BSF keeper Naja Bahrenscheer has one cap for Denmark.

She’ll have her work cut out for her at BSF. The team has Denmark’s backup keeper, Naja Bahrensheer, and several Danish youth national teamers. Despite that, they barely missed out on getting relegated last year, ending the season with one win and a -44 goal differential. They open up play this weekend against current champion Fortuna Hjørring.

The top women’s league in Denmark is known as Elitedivisionen (or 3F Liga for sponsorship purposes). Since 2002, only two sides, the aforementioned Fortuna Hjørring and Brøndby IF, have won the title in the six team league.
